AIS (Automatic Identification System)
AIS allows ports to monitor vessels entering their waters. Vessels install AIS transponders, which are monitored using AIS receivers. To find out more about AIS, see this website: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Identification_System
DMT sells AIS receivers and displays the positions of ships on the same map software that is used for displaying radar feeds (DMT Remote Client).
Here’s an example of ships fitted with AIS transponders. The map is interactive. Put the cursor of the map and click the left mouse button to move the view area. Use the mouse roller to zoom in an out. Click on a particular vessel icon and see information on that vessel. Click on the pull-down box in the upper right and see either a map view or a satellite view.
